PROLOGUE

AN OHIO HOSPITAL

THE FOUR MINUTE LIFE

For the briefest of moments, the little girl had felt comfort - something was wrong, she couldn't
breathe right - she had barely taken her first breath when her last seemed imminent. But
someone, a woman with eyes tearing up behind round glasses, was holding her tight, and the
girl could sense that the woman was willing her to breath, to live. She wasn't her mother, but
she WAS.

It didn't work.

As the light faded, and darkness encroached on her fading consciousness, the little girl's last
sensation in life was hearing the woman desperately whisper: "Rebecca Grace, please stay with
us, don't go..."

And then the darkness fell completely. For a time.

But it was not the end of the girl.
