This is a work of fiction intended for
mature readers. The characters, events, and dark holiday elements
depicted within are products of the author’s imagination. Any
resemblance to real persons or events is entirely coincidental.
Marking the Passage
This obituary appeared in several large Ohio newspapers. Editors, thinking it an odd joke, tried to remove it from the layups, but it appeared anyway.
O'ROURKEThe House of O'Rourke of Vinterland, together with the Monarchy of Otherville, wish to convey to their Mundane Friends the passing of the Family's Grand Matriarch, Annabelle Sophia, after a short illness. She was the longtime owner and operator of, as she liked to refer to it, "Ohio's Finest Independent Bookstore." She was one of the First Citizens of both Vinterland and Otherville, and established the library systems for both Realms. Aunt A. was our Cornerstone.
She was the daughter of the late Francis Thomas O'Rourke, and beloved Realdaughter of the late Frieda. She was also preceeded in death by her niece and Realdaughter Amelia "Amy" O'Rourke and her husband Snowflake, a sister, Angela Maria O'Rourke, and a great-granddaughter, Anya Maria O'Rourke.
She is survived by her Realdaughters Ellen O'Rourke and Rebecca Grace O'Rourke-Kringle, a granddaughter, Rachel Angela O'Rourke (husband Henry), great-granddaughters and devoted caretakers Amailya, Trailya, and Mairlya O'Rourke, her dear great-great granddaughter, Bethany Thomson-O'Rourke, and her beloved great-great-great granddaughter Jamie "Annie" Thomson, with whom she shared a Truename.
Interment was private. The Family requests donations to your local library or literacy organization.
